Jase Allen was sitting in class, reading through his text book as the rest of the class was having study time. After about thirty seconds he headed up to his teacher's desk with pile of papers.
"What's this?" Carol asked.
"My homework," Jase told her. "For the rest of the year. Give me ten minutes and I can have everything through graduation."
"Sit down, Jase," Carol told him with a defeated sigh as she rubbed the bridge of her nose with her fingers. It was only 11 in the morning and she already felt like she'd had Jase in her class for an eternity. Maybe it was time to arrange a parent-teacher conference with his older brother.

"Rush - Part Two""Cody, I know I make my living as a hired assassin, but I'm not about to kill an innocent kid," Jay said as he pulled Cody's arm back. "What did this brat do to you?"
"He killed my mom," Cody told him. "His birth weakened her immune system. That's why she was so sick for the last twelve years. If this little bastard hadn't come along... my mom would still be alive. He took away the only person I've ever loved." "Well, then," Jay said. "Point me in his direction and I'll rip out his spine." "No, this is something I have to do, but we can't just murder the kid here, we're laying low for a while, remember?" Cody asked. "We go in and find the kid, then we take him somewhere private where I can do this nice and slow." Jase and Wyatt walked into the cafeteria for lunch, trying to find a place to sit. "How about over there?" Jase asked. "Actually I'm used to sitting there," Wyatt said as he pointed to the darkest corner of the cafeteria where there was no light. The table was concealed in virtual darkness with what sounded like a monster crunching on bones coming from within the darkened corner. "Coooooool," Jase said as his eyes widened. "Really?" Wyatt asked. "There's actually something hiding in there, you know. It got one of my shoes last week." ""I was wondering what was up with the 'Punky Brewster' look with the two separate colored shoes. That just means adventure!" Jase shouted as he grabbed Wyatt's arm. "We'll use our lunch trays as shields and our sporks as weapons. To destiny, friend o'mine!" "Who's Punky Brewster?" Wyatt asked as Jase grabbed his arm rushed forward into the dark corner. Meanwhile, the senior who had been watching Jase since his arrival that morning just watched them, wondering what it was about the new kid that was so intriguing. "Okay, one room down," Adam said as he slid out from under the sink with a wrench in hand. He got up and put on a backpack with a blowtorch attachment before sliding a pair of goggles over his eyes. "Next stop, Bart's room." Cody and Jay had snuck into the school wearing janitor uniforms as they roamed the halls looking for Cody's long-lost half-brother. "So, what does this kid look like?" Jay asked. Cody stopped in his tracks and paused with no answer. "Cody, you do know what this punk looks like right?" "I know he's around twelve-years-old," Cody said. "He's male, and odds are he probably looks like me or my mom in some way." "Uh-huh," Jay said as he thought about it. "And just how many seventh-grade boys are in this school currently?" "125?" Jay just threw up his hands and started walking away. "Come back here, I have an idea," Cody told him. "But it means you'd have to use your powers." "I don't know, man, I'm a little nervous after last time," "I'll keep an eye on you," Cody promised. "Just listen, this plan will work." Jase and Wyatt were sitting at the lunch table, neither one really wanting to talk about the adventure they'd just been on. "You know they're going to see look up the ceiling and see it, right?" Wyatt asked. "Hey, it's still alive," Jase told him. "I just never knew that cafeteria mashed potatoes would be able to hold something that size to the ceiling this long." "Well, the secret ingredient is rubber cement," Jay's dormant body sat in the boy's room stall while Cody stood watch. Soon a sound was heard as Jay gasped within the stall, and soon the young man stumbled out. "Did you get it?" Cody asked. "I looked through every file to find out who in this school was adopted," Jay said. "There are three kids in the 7th grade that are adopted. Two of them are male, but it said that one of those two was adopted by his big brother. Jase something or other." "And the other kid?" "Wyatt Cassiday. Got a good look at his picture, real freak of nature." "Hey, that's my kid brother you're insulting," Cody said. "The one you're going to slaughter?" "Doesn't mean you get to insult him like that," Cody told him. "Let's go find the little bastard." "So, you live with your big brother?' Wyatt asked. "I don't have any siblings." "Then who do you live with?" "My mom," Wyatt told him. "But she travels a lot. She says it's to make money to support me, but I think she probably thinks that I'm a freak like everyone else. So that means I've got the house to myself most of the time." "I don't think you're a freak," Jase told him. "You're probably the most normal person I know. i mean, my other friend Adam's a robot." "You mean he does what he's told and has no personality?' "No, i mean he's made of wires and circuits and he pees oil. It's both gross and cool at the same time." "Is it odd that I kind of want to see that now?" Wyatt asked as he shifted his eyes downward. "I have... hobbies." The bell rang as the boys got up from their seats. "Bye, Miss Bucklen, see you tomorrow!" Jase said. "You're my favorite teacher!" "Oh dear God," Carol whispered. As the two headed to their lockers, Jay and Cody watched them from up the hall. "Which one do we take?" Jay asked. "Orange eyes," Cody told him. "He has the same color hair my mom had when she was a little girl. He's gotta be the one. We follow them until there's no witnesses, then we grab him." "For a couple of risk-takers, we're being awfully cautious," Jay said. "Just this once because I really want this brat to suffer," Cody told him. "I don't care what it takes, I'm killing this kid tonight." "If you're lonely you can hang out at my house," Jase said as the two boys walked down the street. "No one should be alone all the time like that." "Do you think your brother will mind?" Wyatt asked. "Nah, Bart's cool. He said I could have friends as long as I don't tell them about my superpowers." Jase said as he continued walking. "He sounds like a nice guy." Wyatt told him as he quickly followed behind, just as a car pulled up beside them, driven by the senior who'd been watching them all day. The car was old, rusted and looked like it'd fall apart if you sneezed on it. "Need a ride home, boys?" the teenager asked. "We're not supposed to take rides from strangers." Wyatt told him. "I'm not a stranger, you stood behind me in line for the water fountain that one time." "Oh, yeah," Wyatt said as he went to get in. "Come on, Jase, this guy's like family." "Hey, kid," the teen said as he watched Jase get into the backseat. "I'm Opie." "Like that overplayed song on the radio?" Jase asked. "No, that's Happy." Wyatt told him. "Then who's Opie?" "I am." "Well, nice to know that you're in a good mood," Jase said. "By the way, what's your name?" Bart was headed up the path to the rental house, fishing around for his keys when he heard a familiar voice. "Bart Fucking Allen." "How many times do I have to tell people that's not my middle name?" Bart asked as he turned around to see Connor Kent sitting under a shady tree in the yard. "Connor?" "You come back from the dead and you can't even tell your best friend that you're alive?" Connor asked as he pulled Bart into a tight hug. "Well, in my defense, the Speed Force doesn't really have wi-fi," Bart said. "Otherwise I probably would have stayed." "So, where did you come from, Jase?" Opie asked as the trio had stopped for burgers at an outdoor restaurant. "Haven't seen you around these parts before." "This is my first time at this restaraunt, actually." "No, I meant, where did you come from before Central City?" "Metropolis," Jase said as he ate his burger. "And before that I was living in the Sp--" Risk cut him off by grabbing Opie by the back of his shirt and tossing him across the lot. Mindwarp picked Wyatt up and tossed him into a trash can before the duo closed in on Jase. "Is this one of those hidden camera shows?" Jase asked as he kept eating. "Not a big fan of Ashton Kutcher, but I did that like that movie where he lost his car." "You're coming with us, kid," Risk said as they both grabbed an arm and lifted Jase up. "We have a score to settle." "I didn't mean to get a high score on Candy Crush! The site wasn't crashed that long!" Jase said as Mindwarp used his psychic powers to put him to sleep while they carried the young speedster away. Opie picked himself up off of the ground as he saw Risk and Mindwarp taking Jase away. "No! I need that kid!" Wyatt tipped the trashcan over as he tried to get bits of food off of his clothes and hair. "Why do you need Jase?" "I can't talk about it," Opie told him. "Come on, we have to find him!" "Okay, Jase is my only friend," Wyatt told him. "How do we follow them?" "We'll follow them in my car." The two looked over at Opie's 98 Honda Civic just as a butterfly landed on the radio antenna, causing the wheels to pop off, the windows to shatter and the whole car to slam onto the ground. "So, where are we going to do this?" Mindwarp asked as they tossed Jase into the back of the truck. "Somewhere private so I can make this last," Risk said as he looked at the unconscious Jase. "I'm going to make him pay for every day that my mom was sick." TO BE CONTINUED.... |
