"Do you see anything?"
"Yeah, Jase is sitting in a chair. The guy who took him is standing next to him, but it looks like they're just talking."
"Then I guess we're in time," Opie said as Wyatt sat on his shoulders while the younger man looked through the window. "Let's in get their and save him."
"How?" Wyatt asked. "What if he's armed?"
"He has two arms, we have four, I think we have him outnumbered in that department." Opie told him. "What's the worst he can do, kill us?"
"Yes?"
"Life's too short to worry about dying, kid," Opie told him as he walked toward the door with Wyatt still on his shoulders. "Besides, maybe some of us would be better off if we died."

"Rush - Part Four""Shut-up!" Risk shouted at Jase as he turned around. "You don't know anything about me!"
"I know you're sad," Jase told him as he continued sitting in the chair. "I could tell when you hurt your friend's feelings. I know if I ever hurt Adam or Bart's feelings I'd tell them I was sorry." "Real life doesn't work that way," Risk said. "Are you sorry you killed our mom?" "Our mom? I don't have a mom," Jase told him. "And I've never met you before today, unless... are you from the Speed Force, too?" "The Spee-- what the fuck are you talking about?" Risk asked as he grabbed Jase by the shoulders. "You made our mom sick when you were born, you little freak!" "I wasn't born, I was created," Jase said. "In the Speed Force. A bad man named Inertia helped make me." "You've got a nice imagination, I'll give you that much," Risk said as he pulled out a knife. "But I think it's time to die." "No, don't!" Wyatt shouted as he ran in. "Leave him alone, he's my only friend!" "Who the hell are you?" Risk asked as he saw Wyatt coming closer, which is when his eyes found themselves staring into Wyatt's, seeing the eyes of his very own mother. "No, it can't be. It's you." "Wyatt?" Jase asked as he ran to hug his friend. "You have to meet my new friend, whathisface!" "You killed her," Risk said calmly as he stared at Wyatt. "You killed our mom. She was sick all this time because she didn't want to abort you." "That's a thing he does, tells people they killed his mom, I think he might be a little insane," Jase told him. "I can respect that, people say I'm insane for putting peanut butter on pizza." "I think he's right." Wyatt said. "About peanut butter pizza?" "I was adopted by a mom who loves me," Wyatt said as he stared down at his hands. "And recently I learned I had these... weird powers, but my mom couldn't explain them. Maybe my real mom had powers." "No, she didn't you little bastard," Risk said as he grabbed Wyatt by the shirt. "And she didn't have blue hair like you. She probably still had some of that alien seed in her and when she got pregnant--" Risk stared away as he started remembering that his mother was prone to falling ill after he was born, although it was never anything serious, even though she had a clean medical history prior to Cody's birth. "It was them, it was those alien assholes that made me," Risk whispered. "They made her sick with that alien seed." "Alright, you lost me at aliens getting your mom pregnant," Jase said. "Are you sure you haven't been watching late night horror movies?" "I've been wanting to kill you ever since I found out I had a kid brother," Risk told Wyatt as he fell to his knees and started crying. "And I just let the only person I give a damn about walk out the door over it. Now I'm truly alone." "Okay, I'll be taking my little buddies home now," Opie said as he started ushering Jase toward the door. "Hope it works out, bye!" Wyatt just stood there as he offered Cody a hand to help him up. "You're not alone. You have a little brother." "I tried to kill you." "I have blue hair and like to keep to myself, a lot of people want to kill me," Wyatt told him. "But I've never had a big brother before. Come home with me. Maybe we can still find your friend." "I think he's still outside, sitting under that tree," Jase said as he turned back toward the others, not seeing the security guard drawing his gun. "I think it's going to all work out in--" The sound of gunfire was suddenly heard as the group rushed outside, where Mindwarp was laying motionless under the tree with the guard holding his gun, trembling. Jase looked at Risk's angered face, then at the guard. This happened several times before Jase realized what was about to happen. "Oh, fudge!" Jase grabbed the guard and rushed him away before Risk could get to him, with the intent of ripping his head clean off of his body. Jase returned as Risk lifted him up by the collar. "Bring him back so I can kill him!" "Killing him's not going to solve anything!" Jase shouted. "Killing never solves anything!" "Then I'm going to kill you!" Risk shouted as he pulled the knife out. "He's still breathing!" Opie shouted as he checked Mindwarp's pulse. "It's slowing down. We need to get him to the hospital." "Help me get his shirt off," Wyatt said as he looked at Opie. "Please. I can save him if we hurry. Trust me." Risk dropped Jase and used his knife to cut the top of Mindwarp's shirt down the middle. Wyatt rubbed his hands together and put them on Jay's exposed chest. He closed his eyes as he held his hands on the wound, which started to glow with a blue energy. "What's he doing?" Opie asked. "Healing him," Jase realized. "I have the-- I mean, I've seen it done in a movie." After a few seconds, Wyatt held up his bloodied hands with four bullets in them. Mindwarp started coughing as he looked around. "What the hell is going on?" "You're alive," Risk smiled as he hugged his friend as tight as he could. "You're alive! I'm so sorry for what I said, Jay. For everything I've ever said. You're my best friend and I can't live without you. We're a team, and I don't ever want to lose you again." "You're not going to kiss me, are you?" Mindwarp smirked as he looked at Jase. "I thought you were going to kill your little brother?" "You know what? It's not worth it," Risk said as he helped Mindwarp up and looked at Wyatt. "Jay, I'm... getting tired of moving around all the time. I kind of want to settle down somewhere and just rest for a little while. Do you think maybe we can stay in Central City and just do stuff here?" "What about my... job?" Mindwarp asked. "I'm sure there's plenty of people in this town who need to die," Risk told him. "And I'm sure there's lots of things to steal here, too." "Come again?" Jase asked as Risk put a hand of Wyatt's shoulder. "I believe you said something about a home?" Risk asked. "My mom's away on business a lot, but you can stay in the spare bedroom we've been meaning to rent out," Wyatt told him. "Just don't kill me, okay?" "I don't think you have to worry about that, kid." Risk said as they started walking. "What the fuck just happened?" Mindwarp asked as he looked at Jase before rushing off to catch up with Risk. "Well, now that that's all settled, "Jase said as he got ready to leave, but Opie tried to grab him by the shoulder. "Wait, don't go!" Opie said, but Jase was already long gone. "Dammit." Several states away, the security guard who had shot Mindwarp was sitting in a cage in the zoo, with a large gorilla staring him down with lust in its eyes. The security guard just gulped as he tried to smile. "Well, that was a long day," Bart said as he got home, reaching for the keys in his pocket. He'd spent all afternoon with Connor talking about their future plans, and now they just needed to find their other best friend, Tim Drake. "All I want to do is get some sleep and--" "Hey, Bart!" Jase shouted as he hugged his big brother. "What was that for?" Bart asked. "Just to let you know how much I appreciate having someone like you as my brother." Jase told him. "I like having you around, too. Let's get inside and I'll make dinner by ordering takeout." As Bart opened the door, he saw everything that Adam had done to the house throughout the day. "Like it?" Adam asked from inside the house. "Holy shit," Bart said as he looked around. The place looked like a mansion and was four times as big on the inside. "How?" "I learned to maximize space," Adam told him. "Wait until you see your bedrooms." "There's a hottub!" Jase shouted after running into the next room. Jase's clothes flew onto the floor before a splash was heard. "Cannonball!" "Adam, how could we afford all of this?" Bart asked. "Don't worry, I used scraps and pieces I found throughout the town," Adam told him. "Although I might have accidentally stopped an orphanage from being built, but I've got it covered. I'm going back to build it this weekend the same way I rebuilt this house." Bart fell back onto the couch. "I think I need a long rest." "Then go upstairs and sleep on your new waterbed." Adam told him. "I can't sleep on one for obvious reasons." "Because you're an android?" "Because I'll drown if it pops. I can't swim, you know." Wyatt brought Risk and Mindwarp back to the small house he lived in with his mother. It was a one-story building with a small shed out back and a small yard that was fenced in. As they got closer, Wyatt saw a car in the driveway. "Mom's home!" Wyatt rushed through the door and hugged his mother, a tall woman with long white hair. "I missed you, mom!" Wyatt said as he happily held onto her. "I missed you too, baby," the villainess that the world knew as White Lightning said as she patted his head before looking at Risk and Mindwarp. "My, my, what do we have here? My baby's brought me to strapping young men. You make me so proud, Wyatt. I can get a lot of use from these two." Twenty minutes later, Cody and Jay were doing the yardwork to get the place into decent shape again. "Did you get the feeling that was leading somewhere else?" Jay asked as he pushed the lawnmower. "Don't knock it, we got a roof over our heads in exchange for working around the house and keeping an eye on Wyatt when his mom has to go out of town. Plus we get to lay low for a while until the cops stop looking for you," Risk reminded him while he cleaned the gutters. "Let's just enjoy this little vacation until it's time to get back out there and cause some real mischief. Maybe we can screw around with that superfast kid for some fun." Opie returned home and kicked off his shoes at the front door before walking into the darkened living room, only lit by the fireplace where an older man was sitting in a chair. "You're late, boy," the man said. "You know what happens when you're late." "I'm sorry, sir," Opie said in a frightened voice. "It's just, I met a new friend and--" "Friend?" the man asked as he stood up and backhanded Opie hard across the face. "Who told you that you could have friends? You only have one purpose in life, boy, and it's not to make friends." "I know, I just--" Opie started to say as he walked toward the old man. Seconds later the young man started screaming in pain as splashes of blood hit the wall. As Opie fell to the ground, crying in pain, the old man wiped blood from his lips. "Clean that wall and get lots of rest. I'm going to want a huge breakfast." As the old man walked away, a large wound on Opie's neck started healing itself. Next: Family Outing! |
