1873…
A bad electrical storm had threatened to destroy the small town of Sonora, California. The clouds were coming in and thunder was heard as the dry heat was already causing people to worry about wildfires starting. Lucas Adams stood watch as the storm was just starting as Lucas’s 4-year-old son Mark held his hand.
“Daddy, what’s happening?”
“Electrical storm in this dry heat is going to cause havoc,” Lucas said. “We’re going to have to have to stop this storm before it starts. Think you can help Daddy?”
Mark nodded as he looked up at the man.
“That’s my boy,” Lucas said. “When I tell you, start running as fast as you can and don’t slow down, okay?”
“Okay, daddy,” Mark told him. The boy had already exhibited tremendous speed and a willingness to be a hero like his father. The two took off running as the heat lightning started.
“We’re going to make a funnel to try and contain the storm,” Lucas said. “Try to avoid the heat lightning.”
“Okay,” Mark said as the two started running next to each other, picking up speed as they went. As they ran faster, forming a vortex to suck in the storm clouds as the heat lightning started to strike, causing small fires. As they continued running, a lightning bolt struck the vortex. The tornado started picking up more speed as Lucas stopped.
“Mark, stop! I think we’re done!” Lucas said as the wind picked up the boy and pulled him toward the vortex.
“Daddy!” Mark shouted as Lucas reached for his hand, but he was flying toward the vortex. Lucas started running to catch up, but the wind was getting to be too strong.
Lucas grabbed Mark by the sleeve of his shirt, but the boy was pulled out of it as Lucas fell backward.
“MARK!” LUCAS shouted as the boy disappeared into the tornado. When it subsided, the only thing be found were the boy’s boots...

2009…
The ancient vampire Ambrosia had survived centuries by draining human blood, but as the years passed, he hungered for a constant food source. He tired of snatching people off of the street into dark alleys to feed.
As he kept on the lookout for his latest victim, he spotted a beautiful young woman walking home and ducked into an alley, ready to grab her as she passed.
As she got closer, Ambrosia prepared to get her when the alley started glowing with electrical energy and a boy came from the sky and landed on the ground unconscious.
His pants were burned and the boy’s hair was a mess. Ambrosia looked back onto the street, but the young woman was gone, leaving only the unconscious boy as a snack.
“He’ll do,” the man said as he picked the boy up and sank his teeth into Mark’s neck. As he drank Mark’s blood, a sudden rush came over him as he dropped the child. As the boy fell to the ground, Ambrosia noticed that the boy’s wound where he’d been bitten was starting to heal…

Today…
Jase Allen opened his eyes and found his hands had been chained above him, hanging him from the ceiling. His Impulse costume lay on a table across the room, leaving the boy in his boxers as he tried to use his speed to vibrate free.
“Why can’t I use my speed?” Jase asked. “Why am I here?”
“That’s a long and complicate tale,” Ambrosius said as he stepped out of the shadows. “You’re young and just full of blood, aren’t you? And you’re a quick healer, like anyone with your kind of power. You’ll keep me satiated for years to come. Don’t try to use your powers to escape, boy. When I drain you, you lose your gifts until you recharge, which will be just in time for me to feed again.”
“My brother’s going to come for me,” Jase said. “He always comes for me.”
“And I’ll add him to my growing collection,” Ambrosius told him. “Three people with super speed? I’ll never go hungry again.”

Bart Allen was running around the planet at his top speed, not slowing down for anything. He was just supposed to test his newly regained speed out, but once he started running, he didn’t want to stop. He missed running more than anything and now he was feeling that high again, and never wanted to give it up. Except for one thing he had to remind himself of.
Wyatt sat down on his bed as Bart returned to the blue-haired boy.
“Almost forgot to save the kid that gave me my life back,” Bart told him. “Come on, let me fix my brother’s best friend.”
Wyatt pulled off his shirt as White Lightning walked through the door.
“I’ll just put the sock on the door myself,” the woman said as she closed the door.
“Your mom is really lenient,” Bart told the boy.
“Well, Mom kind of thinks it’s going to hard to get someone with the blue hair,” Wyatt told him. “Maybe she’s right.”
“Hey, don’t put yourself down, kid,” Bart said as he sat down next to Wyatt. “You’ll find someone. Right now, you’re young and have all the time in the world to get a date.”
“Do you have someone, Mr. Allen?” Wyatt asked.
“Well…no,” Bart told him as he patted the boy on the shoulder. “Love has never worked out for me. Alright, lay back so I can use the speed force energy to heal your heart. You’ll be out and playing soccer in no time.”
Wyatt lay back as Bart focused his energy on Wyatt’s heart to heal the damage he’s received.

Within the Speed Force, the statue on Inertia remained frozen in place, just staring forward. Energy started crackling around him as someone was tapping into the speed force…

Opie returned home after going for a run, making sure his adopted father wasn’t home before slowly making his way downstairs. Jase slowly opened his eyes as he saw Opie.
“Help me.”
“I’m sorry,” Opie told the boy. “I can’t. He’ll chain me up with you and… I’m scared to stand up to him.”
“How long did he do this to you?” Jase asked.
“Ever since I was 4,” Opie said as tears fell down his face. “I never got to use my speed because I never had a chance to, and now… I’m too scared to fight back.”
“Then you have to find Bart,” Jase said. “Together, the three of us can take this guy down. We can free you from that monster.”
“I don’t know,” Opie told him. “I’m afraid.”
“You don’t need to be scared,” Jase said. “We’re friends, remember? I’ll make sure you never get hurt again. You can be the man your father wanted you to be.”
“You didn’t know my father,” Opie said.
“Your father was Lucas Adams,” Jase told him. “He lived in the old west in the 1800’s. I met him when I was living in the Speed Force with Bart. He really missed you, he wanted you to grow up to be a strong man, not a vampire’s drug needle.”
“I— I gotta go,” Opie said as he ran out of the house before Jase could protest.
“Help me.”
“I’m sorry,” Opie told the boy. “I can’t. He’ll chain me up with you and… I’m scared to stand up to him.”

“So, what are you going to do now?” Wyatt asked as he walked outside with Bart.
“I’m going to be a hero again,” Bart told him. “I’m going to find my best friends Connor and Tim, and we’re going to be a team like we used to be. But first I’d better find Jase and tell him the good news.”
“And I’m going to find Cody,” Wyatt said as he hugged Bart. “Tell Jase to call me later.”
“Will do,” Bart said as he ran off.
“Was that Bart?” Cody asked. “When did he get fast again?”
“Long story,” Wyatt said. “Did Jay call?”
“I don’t think Jay’s coming back,” Cody told him as he stared away. “I hurt him pretty bad.”
“Do you love him?” Wyatt asked.
“I don’t know,” Cody replied. “I just know I need him in my life. I don’t know what it is, but… he makes me feel good about myself.”
“Is it more than having sex?” Wyatt asked.
“You’re too young to understand,” Cody told him as he walked back toward the guest house where he looked at a picture of himself and Jay after their first crime wave. Then Cody picked up a paper announcing a rare emerald on display at the museum. “On second thought.” Cody ran out of the house and turned Wyatt around. “I think we need a little brother quality time. How would you like to see what I do for a living?”

Opie sat in the library, researching Lucas Adams.
“Lucas Adams, born in 1846 and died in 1941. He really hung in there, didn’t he?” Opie said as he scrolled down. “He spent his whole life trying to his missing son, Mark, who disappeared at age 4. Am I Mark Adams?”

“Jase!” Bart shouted as he ran into the house. “I have great news!”
“Jase isn’t here,” Adam told him. “He never came home after the party.”
“Did he say where he was going?” Bart asked.
“I think he followed Opie home,” Adam replied. “Maybe they’re just playing video games.”
“Or he’s trying to convince Opie that he’s Lucas Adam’s son,” Bart concluded. “I better find them to help explain the situation.”
Bart zipped out of the door as Adam just stood there. “Well, back to fixing my systems,” Adam said as the dishwasher dinged. “Looks like my penis is done!”

Jase continued to struggle with his chains as Ambrosius returned.
“And how is my little Happy Meal doing?”
“He ain’t so happy,” Jase replied. “And my arms are getting sore hanging here. You better let me go before my brother gets here and kicks your ass.”
“I’m well prepared for your brother,” Ambrosius told him. “I’m saving him a spot right next to you. I figure you should be good to go soon, then I’ll drain you again, and again. You and I are going to have a lot of fun together.”
“No, you’re not,” Opie said from the top of the stairs. “You’re letting my little buddy go.”
“Opie, go upstairs, I’m not int he mood for this—“ Ambrosius said as Opie punched him then returned to his place at the top of the stairs. “You struck me! Opie, I’m going to—”
“Don’t call me Opie, I’m not a character on a 60’s sitcom! My name is Mark!” the young man replied. “And I’m done listening to you!”
“Are you now?” Ambrosius asked as he picked up a metal pipe and bent it. “I’ve drained you for 12 years, boy. I’m strong enough to take on an army now!”
A knock came from the door outside.

Bart knocked on the door and waited. Jase had to be there since Bart had circled the globe twice to find the boy and came up with nothing. Bart paced the porch rapidly waiting for an answer.

“That must be my entree now,” Ambrosius said as he back-handed Opie and sent him against the wall where he was knocked unconscious. Opie fell to the ground as Jase watched helplessly. “I think I could go for another bite.”
Ambrosius kneeled and started to drain Opie of his power, letting the boy fall back down while Jase watched in horror. “Don’t worry, child, I still have plenty of room for your friend. I’ll be back with a healthy supply of food.”

Cody and Wyatt lay in the bed in the guest house, staring at the ceiling.
“This is nice,” Wyatt said. “Just me and my big brother spending time together.”
“I never realized how nice it is to have a sibling,” Cody told him. “It makes me miss my Teen Titans days.”
“You were a Teen Titan?” Wyatt asked as he sat up.
“For a while,” Cody replied. “But we split up soon after and I never really found another family… until now.”
“Do you think there are more kids out there like me?” Wyatt asked.
“There are no other kids like you,” Cody promised. “You are one of a kind. And soon, we’re going to take this town, the Driscoll Brothers are going to be on top of things very soon.”
“If Jay comes back, are you gonna marry him?” Wyatt asked minutes later.
“I told you, Jay’s not coming back,” Cody said. “Because I couldn’t give him what he wanted.”
“What couldn’t you give him?”
A tear fell down Cody’s face. “… Me.”

Ambrosius answered the door and found Bart standing there. “May I help you?”
“Hi, I’m Bart, and I think my little brother was here,” Bart told him. “About 5 feet, multi- coloured hair, orange eyes, you couldn’t miss him.”
“Sorry, no freak shows around here,” Ambrosius said as he started to close the door.
“Mind if I look around just to be sure?” Bart asked. “Jase is good at hiding himself, he might be in there.”
“Sure,” Ambrosius said as he opened the door for Bart to enter. The house was dark, with lit candles everywhere. The decor was something out of Bram Stoker movie.
“That’s not off-putting,” Bart said. “Jase? Are you here?”
Ambrosius was about to sink his fangs into Bart when he quickly turned around. “Maybe I should check the house.”
“How about you start in the basement?” Ambrosius asked.
“Good idea,” Bart said as Ambrosius opened the basement door, but Bart was already there and back.
“Yeah, you got my kid down there and his pal Opie,” Bart told him. “Talk because I’m awfully pissed right now.”
Ambrosius hit Bart on the heat with a vase, knocking him to the floor.
“Ow, dude!” Bart said as he felt his head. Ambrosius bared his fangs and went for Bart, who realized what was happening. “Oh, I get it. You’re a vampire and you’re into draining speedsters!”
Bart zipped away and quickly returned with a crossbow loaded with wooden stakes.
“Do you honestly think those will kill me?”
“Not kill you,” Bart said as he fired. Ambrosius screamed in pain. “But Stakes coated
with dead man’s blood oughta slow you down. I can speed read, doffs, so I checked out
all the legitimate vampire lore and the most common thing was dead man’s blood.”
“I’ll kill you,” Ambrosius told him.
“Tell it to Buffy,” Bart said as he kicked Ambrosius to the side and ran down the stairs to Jase.
“Bart!” Jase shouted. “How did you beat him?”
“Creepy old guy that collects kids? Like it’s really the first time I’ve dealt with someone
like that,” Bart said as he unchained Jase and helped him to the ground before looking at Opie. “What about him?”
“He’s cool,” Jase told him. “Opie?”
The boy tried to sit up, but was still weak. “I think my name is Mark.”
Bart looked over at Jase, who was still in his boxers. “We caught the bad guy, you can
get dressed.”
“I know, but I like this,” Jase told him. “I like the breeze.”

A short while later, after Bart had S.T.A.R. Labs come and take Ambrosius away, he sat on the front porch of the now empty house with Jase and Mark.
“So the authorities were after this guy for years for a bunch of mysterious deaths,” Bart told him. “When he found Mark here, fresh from the 18th century, he decided to use him as his personal blood-bank.”
“So, my Dad really did die a long time ago,” Mark told him as a tear fell down his cheek.
“Now I really am all alone.”
“Nah, you’ve still got friends here,” Bart told him. “We’ll find a place for you.”
“Even after I got Jase captured?” Mark asked.
“That wasn’t your fault,” Bart said. “You turned it all around, and now we’re all free to live our lives. And since I got my speed back, I can help train you and Jase on how to use your powers properly.”
“Then what?” Mark asked.
“Then we use our powers to help people,” Bart said as he pulled Jase close. We can be a trio of heroes. Impulse and…”
“Cyclone,” Mark added. “Like my father.”
“And I guess I’ll need a superhero name too,” Bart told them. “How about Fast Track?”
“I like it?” Mark smiled. “What are you going to do now?”
“Well, I’m going to head to Metropolis,” Bart told him. “I’m going to help my buddy get his powers back. Want to come?”
